A definite highlight to our 2022 honeymoon in Belize was our visit to Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge. We stayed at Sleeping Giant during the start of the rainy season (June), and we indeed received a LOT of rain during our visit, but honestly, it was perfect – because once we arrived at the resort, we didn’t want to leave! The weather was perfect for cuddling up in our gorgeous suite and enjoying the (covered) outdoor plunge pool. What a view!

Where is Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge located?
Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge is located in Belize’s beautiful Cayo district, just 17 miles from Belize’s capital city of Belmopan.
This area is lush and vast, and you’re sure to fall in love with the surroundings like we did! It’s the perfect part of Belize to stay in to experience all that its mountainous jungle region has to offer.

How to Get to Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge, Belize:
HOW TO GET TO BELIZE
The main airport in Belize is called Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE). Visitors from outside the country arriving via plane first arrive at this airport before continuing on with their journey.
From there, the driving time between the airport and Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge is about 1.5 hours, and it’s a beautiful drive!
Driving Directions from Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport (BZE):
Once you arrive at BZE, leave the airport and hop in your rental vehicle. Take a left on the Northern Highway into the town of Ladyville. From here, look for signs to the Bermudian Landing Bamboo Sanctuary or to Burrell Boom Village. Next you’ll take a left turn off the highway and proceed westward on the Burrell Boom road for about 10 miles; exit on the Western Highway. You’ll then take the first right on the roundabout in Hattieville and proceed towards Belmopan City. Next, you will take a left turn off the highway into Belmopan City and proceed to the Hummingbird Highway. Stay on this highway and drive to Mile 36 to find yourself in rainforest jungle paradise!

The Grove House Restaurant:
A Field-to-Table Dining Experience at Sleeping Giant
Experience upscale dining inside of a beautiful wooden interior and a thatched ceiling while being surrounded by lush vegetation and pleasant, colourful gardens.
The Grove House is located on the second and third floor of Sleeping Giant’s main building. On the second deck you’ll find the bar, a fun lounge to enjoy your cocktails, and an outdoor balcony dining space. On the third floor you’ll find the main sitting area for breakfast and dinner. This is a spacious and intimate setting that has a romantic ambiance (and a view) – it’s the perfect place to enjoy your honeymoon meals!
You’ll discover Belize’s finest boutique-farm products, as Sleeping Giant’s Chef Rahim serves up exquisite cuisine in this bright and airy dining area with gorgeous mountain views. Allow Sleeping Giant’s culinary and beverage staff to organize a fine-dining experience that is delicious and truly memorable. The meals here use fresh, local produce that has been picked from Sleeping Giant’s well-kept 600-acre garden.

Sleeping Giant really, really shines when it comes to room categories, furnishings, and thoughtful touches and features. It rained the majority of our time at this resort, which was fine by us, as we loved our room so much and were happy to have an excuse to spend the days cuddled up in the beautiful room and peaceful outdoor plunge warm pool!

The Riverview Suites are 1,030 sq. ft. of enclosed outdoor areas and air-conditioned interior space that are expertly decorated to reflect the views and sounds of the lush rainforest all around you.
These beautiful, thoughtfully-appointed suites have a balcony with a personal plunge pool, a tastefully-furnished and charming sitting space, and feature a beautiful view of the Sibun River and Sleeping Giant Mountain Range.
These rooms are truly one of a kind, and we can’t recommend them enough. They are the perfect accommodation option for a romantic honeymoon getaway.
Cuddled up in the warm pool under the covered roof was the perfect way to spend a rainy day in the Belizean jungle. We also had our morning (Nespresso-machine) coffees out here – amazing!

Things To Do at Sleeping Giant in Belize:
RELAX BY THE POOL
The pool area at Sleeping Giant is absolutely beautiful, and spacious! If the weather is sunny (or even just humid!), enjoy relaxing the day away with a book and a cocktail at the beautiful pool area.
HANG OUT AT THE NEST
The vista from the second platform at The Nest, Sleeping Giant’s onsite treehouse platform, is sure to wow adventure seekers! As you relax in the overwater net hanging above the Sibun River, you can stare out to the Sleeping Giant formation or down at the crystal-clear river running below you. What a place to relax and take in your gorgeous natural surroundings! Sleeping Giant staff can also arrange a picnic for you up here.
EXPLORE THE ORANGE GROVE
It doesn’t get fresher than this! Organic oranges are harvested from Sleeping Giant’s acres of onsite orange orchards to supply their restaurants and bars with freshly-squeezed juice and decadent orange jam. And the groves are gorgeous to boot!
VISIT MAYAN RUINS
Discover the temples of the then-prosperous Xunantunich Maya buildings and improve your understanding of the indigenous people of the old land. You can also choose to be toured by a guide who can show you around the site and answer your questions about the culture and beliefs of this civilization.
GO BIRDWATCHING
Belize has quickly developed into a birder’s paradise due to the richness of more than 574 kinds of birds located in this tiny country! Some of the most stunning species seen in the nation may be found at Sleeping Giant. Over 600 acres of beautiful vegetation and wildlife may be found on the site, so make sure to go birdwatching during your time at the resort!
HORSE & BUGGY TOUR
Families with small children will love Sleeping Giant’s onsite Horse and Buggy Tour. You’ll get to explore the remaining 600 acres of their land and have fun swimming and traversing a jungle bridge!

Our Review of Sleeping Giant Rainforest Resort as a Belize Honeymoon Resort
This is an absolutely ideal resort if you’re planning a romantic getaway to Belize. The rooms are perfectly appointed to allow for lots of alone time together; you’ll love starting and ending each day in the private plunge pools like we did!
The grounds at Sleeping Giant are so fun to explore – there are hikes you can do, a field of orange groves you can wander, suspension bridges to find, and even a treehouse hangout area (the Nest) to relax in! You can go horseback riding right on site or join a cooking class. And the crew at Sleeping Giant is fantastic when it comes to arranging tours in the area – definitely try the cave tours, river tubing, and ziplining!
You’ll also love the food at Sleeping Giant and won’t need to go anywhere else to get your fix of delicious meals and drinks. The unique cocktails here are a must!
I know you’ll love your time here. This is a once-in-a-lifetime jungle resort and it’s very, very much worth the trip.
