Have you heard the buzz yet about insect-repellent clothing?

There’s nothing better than the start of summer. Bluebird skies, sun shining down onto your shoulders, lush green trees, mountain ranges and alpine lakes just waiting to be paddled…

However, there is one downside to the warmer weather: MOSQUITOES!!!

Pesky, annoying, nasty little mosquitoes. Nobody likes them, especially not those looking to enjoy a gorgeous summer’s day spent camping, gardening, golfing, hiking, kayaking…the list goes on and on.

Mosquitoes are a major nuisance. I’m actually somewhat allergic to mosquito bites and if I’m bitten, the bites can swell up quickly and get incredibly itchy. That being said, when I discovered that there was a line of clothing that was already pre-treated with mosquito repellent, I couldn’t wait to find out more!

Mark’s carries WindRiver No Fly Zone® products, Canada’s first insect repellent clothing. Every item in the line is treated with an innovative insect repellent solution that binds with the fabric. This creates a long-lasting and effective mosquito protection that you can simply wear as regular outdoor clothing – no stinky and sticky sprays or creams required. The treatment is completely odorless and lasts for 70+ washes. And the No Fly Zone products are really cute to boot!

I partnered with Mark’s recently to try out an entire No Fly Zone outfit during an adventure in the Canadian Rockies, and I’m so excited to report that I definitely found the clothing treated with insect repellent to be effective. I can’t wait to wear the gear on even more adventures!

I tried out the Women’s Short Sleeve No Fly Zone Shirt (color: peach), Women’s No Fly Zone Shorts (color: grey), and the Women’s No Fly Zone Jacket (color: grey). I paired this No Fly Zone outfit with the Adidas Women’s Qt Racer Sneakers in black – not an insect repellent product, but super cute and comfy!

How insect-repellent clothing works:

It’s simple! When the mosquito lands on the permethrin-treated clothing, the clothing repels the mosquito, and the mosquito flies away without biting.

The permethrin-based technology works as a proximity/contact repellent affecting insects’ nervous systems, causing them to fly away before a bite can occur.

Insect-repellent clothing is new to Canada:

Mark’s is the first retailer in Canada to sell No Fly Zone® insect-repellent clothing. Similar products have been available to the rest of the world, but it’s taken Mark’s over ten years of working with various companies and government agencies to finally be able to introduce Canadians to these revolutionary products.

If you’re looking forward to summer as much as I am but dreading those pesky mosquitoes, I highly recommend giving No Fly Zone products a try. It’s so convenient to just toss on the clothing and head out, leaving the smelly sprays behind.
