Los Cabos is a destination I have had a special place in my heart for, for many years.
Located on the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, Los Cabos is comprised of two towns: Cabo San Lucas, and San Jose del Cabo. The two are linked by a 20-mile stretch of stunning beachfront properties aptly known as the “Resort Corridor”. Its position as a destination with perfect weather and easy non-stop flights from multiple U.S. and Canadian cities makes Los Cabos an obvious choice for a fun-and-sun getaway.
Myself and my good friend Ashley decided to take a quick 5-day, 4-night trip to Cabos at the same time as the tail-end of Alberta’s summer quickly plummeted into a gloomy mix of autumn and winter rain, snow, and fog. As we lifted off high above Calgary on our departure flight, we happily waved a short farewell to our city, which was now clothed in all varieties of cold, wet and gray.
This trip, I had the absolute pleasure of partnering with some of Cabo’s best resorts, tours, and transport providers, all of whom I would highly recommend for your own trip to Cabos. Keep reading to find out more!
Where to stay:
Grand Velas Resort
Our first two nights, we were graciously accommodated by the Grand Velas Los Cabos, a luxury all-inclusive resort. As soon as we walked into the fifth-floor lobby with its stunning architecture and sprawling ocean vistas, we knew we had entered a world of true luxury and splendor beautifully perched on a memorable beach.
Service at this Los Cabos all-inclusive resort was impeccable, from the doormen, to the wait staff, to the pool concierges (yes, this was a thing, and he brought us cold towels and cucumber slices for our eyes – no joke).
Multiple tiers of oceanfront pools decorated the resort, and each restaurant offered creatively-curated menus and drinks.
We ate at Cocina de Autor (8-10 course creative Fusion cuisine) and Luca (traditional Italian), and both were spectacular.
I was treated to a lovely candle wax massage after Ashley and I enjoyed the spa’s “7-Step Water Ceremony”. The Water Ceremony was particularly memorable and included a self-guided, hydrotherapy pool massage treatment with hot & cold plunge pools, an ice room, a steam room, and a dry sauna. Our treatment was complete with – you guessed it! – our own personal “spa concierge”, who sweetly brought us healthy drinks as we treated our backs, legs, heads, shoulders and feet to varying pressures of aqua massage. This was an experience I will be singing the praises of for years to come.
If you come to Cabos and need to relax, don’t ask questions – consider a stay at the Grand Velas and book yourself into the spa ASAP.
Montage Los Cabos
Our following two nights were spent at the Montage Los Cabos, a sprawling and modern new offering to Cabos (the hotel was recently opened in May 2018). Montage Los Cabos is built upon 39 acres of beautiful land on the Santa Maria Bay, which means that this is one of the only resorts in Cabos that has its own swimmable beach!
Simply walking into the lobby here is a treat, and our breath was taken away as we passed through the towering doors and were greeted with the ocean view that stretched out in front of us. The architecture here is modern and chic, and flowering with large cacti and desert plants.
On our second day, Montage treated us to a private pool cabana, which came appointed with a comfortable bed and couch and a stunning oceanview. Needless to say, we didn’t leave our cabana until the sun went down. We were graciously waited on by amazing pool staff, and the food and drinks were delicious (which we, of course, consumed while submerged in our perfect-temperature private pool).
We ate our first dinner at Marea By Night, the beachfront, open air restaurant, and our second at Mezca, a Mexican offering, which was gloriously outfitted in beautiful copper and vintage lighting. Each was extremely delicious, and it was a treat to meet the chefs near the end of our meal and have them personally answer questions.
The biggest treat for us, however, was the moment we were able to witness a release of 200 baby turtles, which the resort coordinated on our second evening. If you haven’t experienced this yet, it is truly a miracle.
If you’re looking for a desert-chic getaway with flagship service located on a stunning private bay, this is it! Don’t hesitate and book your stay at Montage Los Cabos.

You gotta try this:
Cabo Sky Tours
Have you ever flown high above a coast line in an ultra-light power glyder? Neither have I, until I discovered Ernesto with Cabo Sky Tours. And now that I have had this experience, I will be booking it again the next time I return!
Ernesto is an extremely experienced pilot, and we immediately felt comfortable and safe with him. He allows you to choose from a regular tour, or an “adventure” tour (which we selected without question).
During the adventure tour, Ernesto dips and drops and swirls the glyder around so you feel as if you are on a free-falling rollercoaster high above the Baja Peninsula. The views were spectacular: there’s nothing like an aerial perspective of a coastline, and this particular view is etched in my heart.
To book with Ernesto, visit the Cabo Sky Tours website and check out his reviews on TripAdvisor.
How to get around:
All Cabo Services
If you’re in need of a driver, All Cabo Services is such an excellent choice! Our driver was David, and he went above and beyond traditional driver duties.
Ashley and I were planning to visit the Casa Hogar Children’s Orphanage in Cabos. With some of the money we fundraised prior to our trip, we wanted to go to the local bulk food store and purchase groceries. David was a superstar! He took us into the bulk food store, helped us to translate the Spanish labels, loaded up the heavy bulk items, and helped with monetary conversions.
His vehicle was beautiful, comfortable, and offered WiFi service and chargers for our devices. Not to mention, his English was perfect! He also always had plenty of goodies for us – cool mister spray, cold water, Mexican sweets…
All Cabo Services seriously goes above and beyond. They have trustworthy, kind drivers that will make your trip to Mexico truly memorable. Book them for your next Cabo trip here: All Cabo Services Website
