WHERE IS HAVASU FALLS?
Havasu Falls can be found in the SW section of Northern Arizona’s Grand Canyon. Thousands of people visit the waterfalls each year as its beauty is unparalleled.
HOW DO YOU GET TO HAVASU FALLS?
To reach Havasu, you must hike 10 miles into the Grand Canyon. The start of the trail is down a long gravel road. You must camp at the Campground, as day-trips are not permitted.
Each and every visitor must have permits and reservations to the campground or lodge or you will be turned around at the trailhead or the various checkpoints throughout the hike. Learn more about the hike into Havasu Falls here.
HOW TO GET PERMITS TO HAVASU FALLS?
To visit, you’ll require permits and reservations to camp over night, or to stay at the lodge. Permits are limited to 350 permits per day and securing these permits is not an easy task!
Many people want to visit Havasu Falls and book very far in advance for their permits. However, here are some tips to help you secure your own permit:
Campground reservations (February to November) go on sale 8 am MST on February 1 of the same year.
Camping reservations can be booked online here.
Each year, campground reservations sell out for the entire year, within the first few hours on February 1st.
Reservations for the Havasu lodge go on sale June 1 for the next year (April to December).
Reservations for lodge accommodation must be booked by phone (928-448-2111 or 928-448-2201).
NEW: The Tribe has recently created a transfer system where visitors who can’t use their reservation are now able to transfer it to someone else, or put it up for sale on the reservation website. Visit the Havasupai Reservations website here for more information.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT HAVASU FALLS:
In my opinion, the best months to visit are:
March, April, May:
The weather is pleasant and perfect for hiking. March might not be hot enough for swimming in the waterfalls, but it shouldn’t be as busy as other months. In April and May, it is warmer, more lush, and great for swimming, but it will also become more crowded.
September:
This is an awesome month to visit Havasu Falls! Pleasant temperatures, but also busy. Note that flash floods can happen from summer until about mid-September.
October, November:
Not quite as warm. Until mid-October, the swimming and hiking weather is comfortable. The temperatures can drop in November, and won’t be quite as warm for swimming.
